Before Class
- Read the assigned passage on the Tripartite Soul from Plato’s Republic (below, in Read This), then
- Do the “Draw Your Own Beast” exercise
- Selection from Book IX of Plato’s Republic, describing the Myth of the Beast
- Horst (1998) “Our Animal Bodies“, which begins with Plato’s metaphor and expands on it with some applications in moral psychology.
