Steven W. Horst
Philosophy Department Chair

Steven Horst is Professor and Chair of Philosophy. His research interests include philosophy of mind, cognitive science, philosophy of science, and metaphysics. In addition to this course, he also teaches courses in philosophy of mind, Early Modern philosophy, and moral psychology.

Tushar Irani
Associate Professor of Philosophy and Letters

Tushar Irani is Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy and the College of Letters. Apart from his interest in philosophy as a way of life, he works on issues of philosophical method, the history and practice of rhetoric, virtue ethics, and moral psychology in Ancient Greek and Roman philosophy. He has a particular research interest in Plato.

Stephen Angle
Professor of Philosophy and Mansfield Freeman Professor of East Asian Studies

Stephen Angle specializes in Chinese Philosophy, Confucianism, Neo-Confucianism, and comparative philosophy, and his research focuses on philosophy’s role in human rights, politics, and ethics both in China and globally.

Sophia is a Junior majoring in Philosophy, Psychology, and the Science in Society Program. She is from New Jersey and she is looking forward to great dialogues this semester.

Jimmy McShane

Jimmy is a Junior majoring in Computer Science from Raleigh, North Carolina. When not leading a philosophical dialogue, you can find him rowing on the Connecticut River, playing ice hockey, or fooling around with various musical instruments.

Tessa Ury

Tessa is a Junior majoring in Philosophy on the Social Justice track with a specific focus in education. She is from Montclair, New Jersey. She has a special interest in Eastern philosophy, particularly Buddhism and Daoism. Along with her interests in philosophy and education she plays on Wesleyan's Rugby team and writes and records music.

Tamar Cox-Rubien

Tamar is a Junior majoring in the Science in Society Program. She currently lives in Brooklyn, NY. Her philosophical interests include panpsychism, animism, and the exploration of consciousness in human and non-human entities. She is also interested in Chinese philosophy, particularly Daoism. Outside of class she enjoys listening to music and practicing Transcendental Meditation.
